1. Highway Engineering Lab

The Highway engineering laboratory in RPS is well equipped with all the required instruments and equipments that are helpful in the overall understanding and practical knowledge of a student. The Highway engineering lab has equipment required to conduct all standardized tests to assess quality of highway materials, pavement evaluation and traffic engineering studies. Experiments are conducted in pre-, during- and post-construction phases of highways. The Transportation Engineering lab does quality assurance and quality control tests for the Roads, Traffic engineering surveys are also conducted in the lab and students learn to conduct spot speed studies, volume counts, and conflict studies for preparing road improvement plans to enhance road safety. The objective of Highway engineering laboratory is to determine some of the properties of coarse aggregates and bitumen. Experiments include tests for impact, abrasion, attrition test and crushing strength for coarse aggregate and tests for penetration, ductility, viscosity, softening point and flash and fire point for bitumen. The students will be able to infer the suitability of these materials for construction of road. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course transportation engineering.

Following is the list of equipments in the laboratory:

  • Ductility testing machine, electrically operated
  • Los angles Abrasion testing machine, IS 2386
  • Aggregate crushing value apparatus
  • Aggregate impact tester IS 2386(IV)
  • Laboratory CBR Apparatus IS 9669, IS 2720 (Part XVI)
  • Thickness( flakiness ) gauge, ISI mark, IS 2386 (Part I)
  • Length( elongation) gauge, ISI mark
  • Flash point closed Pensky Martens Apparatus, IS 1209
  • Ring ball apparatus, electrically heated , IS 1205

2. Structure Machines Lab

Structural engineering is one of the most fundamental engineering disciplines because it deals directly with the structural integrity and strength of a building or structure. Thus all construction projects must utilize the principles of structural engineering in order for the new building or structure to bear its own load and to be able to withstand the demands that will be placed upon it. Structures must be designed so that they can withstand their own weight as well as the loads and pressures that will be placed upon them. Structural engineers provide crucial information about roof types, foundations, floors, steel beams, material quality, retaining walls, and more. Structural mechanics experiments help to understand, to know the practical behavior of the physical structures like beams, different arches, roof truss etc. A proper structural analysis of these structures helps the students to solve the practical problems. Different structural apparatus like Two-Hinge Arch, Three- Hinge Arch, Simply Supported Beam, Curved Member of Different shape, Pin Joint Truss are available in the laboratory.

3.Concrete Technology lab

The concrete technology lab is established to train students to carry out test on construction materials like cement, concrete, tiles etc .The test are conducted to determine engineering properties in term of strength, strain, durability and workability. Major equipments includes compressive testing machine with flexural strength, standard test sieve, vicat apparatus.

List of Equipments:

  • Compression testing machine
  • Compaction factor test
  • Sieve shaker
  • Flexural testing machine
  • Flow table
  • Slump cone

4.Surveying lab

The survey lab is established with the purpose of enabling students to practice land survey techniques using a wide spectrum of surveying instrument ranging from prismatic compass dumpy level Auto level total station .Electronic transit theodolite to the latest total station .The laboraratory provide facilities for linear space and angular measurement in the field.

List of equipments:

  • Auto level
  • Dumpy level
  • Total station
  • Plane table
  • Electronic theodolite

5.Engineering Drawing Lab

An engineering drawing is a type of technical drawing used to define the requirements for engineering projects like building road airport or components. The main purpose of engineering drawing is to capture all geometric features of a constructional site and their components.
